 1) Liam Thomas, irischer Politiker, * Templeogue (County Dublin) 17. 4. 1920, Sohn von 2); zunächst in der Finanzverwaltung tätig, schloss sich politisch der Fine Gael an. 1948-51 war er Handels- und Industrieminister, 1954-57 Außenminister, 1973-77 Ministerpräsident, 1965-77 Führer der Fine Gael.
 
 2) William Thomas, irischer Politiker, * Dublin 6. 6. 1880, ✝ ebenda 16. 11. 1965, Vater von 1); Kaufmann, Mitglied der irischen Unabhängigkeitsbewegung Sinn Féin, nahm am gescheiterten Osteraufstand (1916) teil (1916/17 in Haft). Nach Ausrufung der Republik (1919) war Cosgrave einer der Organisatoren des antibritischen Aufstandes. Nach Unterzeichnung des anglobritischen Vertrages (Errichtung des Freistaates Irland; 1921) und der Spaltung der Sinn Féin wurde Cosgrave im September 1922 Präsident des Exekutivrates (Ministerpräsident; bis 1932). 1923 sammelte Cosgrave die gemäßigten Kräfte der Unabhängigkeitsbewegung, aus der 1933 die Fine Gael hervorging. 1932-44 war er Oppositionsführer in der Dáil Eirean.
